The Shiv Shakti Mothers’ Club was found in 2008 by Morganan, while working with the Hindu Heritage Research Foundation(NZ) and Shakila Devi Morganan to educate women as how to nurture their families and keep them healthy, happy and a loving and caring family. Shakila has eight years of experience as a president of Shakti Women’s Club in Ba-Fiji.
The Club had 4 members and today it has eight members. The seating is done every two weekly at the secretary’s residence. They do prayers, sing hymns and do other activities as necessary to revive the lost skills. Thus they also have tea & snack time together and enjoy what they do. They also raise funds for families who are in poverty and need assistance.
The club gives loans on a very small interest and the interests earned is used to assist the families in need. New members are selected by their panel and then given approval by the Committee members and are on trial for one year. The member fee is $15.00 and is non refundable.
The club also visits the member’s families who have a death in the family and they assist the family in grief by any means to the family. The club mostly tries to educate the members and their immediate families to follow and keep up with the culture and tradition. This mostly keeps the families united and out of crimes.
The Club had it’s election. The nominated management committee is as follows:
President — Shakila Devi Morganan
Secretary — Premila Ramlu
Treasurer — Rosina Loloma Brown
Committee — Lila Wati, Rosaline, Mamta Sumintra
